Time travel with Schloss Johannisberg

What do the years 1968, 1973, 1994, 2003, 2008 and 2021 have in common? They all produced outstanding Riesling wines at Schloss Johannisberg and were presented a spart of our rarity tasting on November 23rd.

We provided our guests with an unforgettable evening, starting with a tour through the cellar, followed by a tasting of six matured Schloss Johannisberg Riesling wines and rounded off with a 4-course menu in our restaurant Schlossschänke. The wine tasting was hosted by Stefan Doktor, managing director of Schloss Johannisberg, who provided the guests with the major world events of those years, as well as anecdotes from his private life and the winery. The ageing potential of the wines amazed many and delighted everyone. Starting with our dry Goldlack from 2021, which is still in its infancy but has a promising future ahead of it; to our Orangelack Kabinett from 1973, which still impresses with its pleasant youthfulness; to our Rosalack Auslese Goldkapsel from 2003 – a firework of fullness and sweetness. We introduced the change between the years with a number 1 hit from the respective years and so our guests could look forward to the next wine with Simon & Garfunkel, Marvin Gaye and Adele, among others.

During the subsequent 4-course menu, our guests were treated to autumnal creations such as turbot with macadamia and truffles or saddle of venison wrapped in bread. The matching Schloss Johannisberg Riesling wines perfectly complemented the previous tasting.

It was a precious evening, both for the Schloss Johannisberg team and for our guests. The rarity tasting made it clear that a look into the past of Schloss Johannisberg is worthwhile and attracts public interest. The evening certainly led to many wine lovers now looking with different eyes and impatiently at their treasures in the cellar.
