Between Sound and Silence
It is not through a big marketing blitz, but rather in a pleasantly unassuming way that Liya Wang has established herself in the piano world in recent years. Since at least September 2025, when she won first prize and the audience prize at the ARD International Music Competition, it has been clear that she belongs on the big stage. With this and other awards to her credit, she always shapes her playing with subtle intuition, finding in every work the perfect balance between rigor and freedom, between formal clarity and spontaneous emotion. For her debut in our “Ausgezeichnet!” series, she conjures up a cleverly conceived program on the Johannisberg Castle stage: under her hands, Schubert songs in Franz Liszt’s demanding piano transcriptions, as well as Beethoven’s masterful Sonata No. 30 and Schumann’s romantic Fantasy and Arabesque, unfold with an almost timeless effect.
