There are wines that are drunk. There are wines that are stored. And there are wines that go down in history. To mark the 250th anniversary of the discovery of the Spätlese, which we are celebrating this year, we have created such a wine and christened it with the following name:
Ex Bibliotheca Cuvée »100« Spätlese This wine is a treasure, a collector’s item, a monumental work of time. With our Ex Bibliotheca Cuvée »100« Spätlese, you hold a piece of liquid history from Johannisberg in your hands. An assemblage of late harvest wines from the greatest vintages – from 2015 back to 1915. Matured in our 9-meter-deep Bibliotheca Subterranea, carefully handcrafted and dressed in a garment that does justice to the value of this wine.
When you hold this creation in your hands, you are the proud owner of a strictly limited late harvest wine that has never existed before and will most likely never exist again. Our Ex Bibliotheca Cuvée »100« Spätlese embodies the aging potential of Schloss Johannisberg Rieslings like no other wine. What’s more, it pays homage to our centuries-old Riesling culture and embodies our philosophy of not only producing great wines, but also making them an experience.
»We have managed to capture part of the soul of Schloss Johannisberg and put it in liquid form in a bottle.« Stefan Doktor, winery manager
What the wine experts say:
JAMES SUCKLING, 98 POINTS:
»It’s really hard to imagine this unique wine, which tastes really dry but is actually a blend of several vintages, all of which were more or less not dry. The complexity of dried fruits and flowers is combined with a noble, austere balance. This is drinking history. A limited cuvée of late harvest wines dating back to the 1915 vintage.«
ROBERT PARKER, 96 POINTS
»It is pure, profound, intense, and elegant, as flinty and floral as it is fruity, and above all elegant and beautifully balanced. An irresistible wine with a flawless texture and a very stimulating salinity and mineral grip. Aromas of honey, white nougat, and apricots pop
up on the palate and finish, and the wine is intense in a very elegant and mouth-watering but weightless way. It’s rich but refined and elegant, lively and refreshing, and should be enjoyed in big gulps. The wine is moderately sweet, and the finish is intense and very long. Ripe and juicy apricots and notes of morels and porcini mushrooms make it a delicious gastronomic wine that is immediately magnificent and has a unique style. It has remarkable finesse and spice with beautiful aromas of tropical fruits, is very harmonious, and is a true representative of the magnificent Schloss Johannisberg. «
