Jess Gillam Trio

Jess Gillam Trio

Chamber music with a refreshing twist
This exceptional artist sets new standards with her interpretations and proves that her instrument belongs on the big stage: At just 17 years old, saxophonist Jess Gillam won the woodwind final of the prestigious “BBC Young Musician of the Year” competition; two years later, she wowed audiences at the “Last Night of the Proms” as the youngest soloist in the event’s history. Meanwhile, the British musician—who fits perfectly into this year’s UK focus—is the only representative of her instrument to have a recording contract with the major label Decca and hosts her own radio shows on the BBC. Together with pianist Joseph Havlat and bassist Sam Becker, Jess Gillam has formed a trio that is making its debut in the Rheingau this year. Rousing, unconventional, and full of charm, the three bring a breath of fresh air to the world of chamber music, effortlessly transcending genre boundaries—a fact they will masterfully demonstrate in their concert at Schloss Johannisberg.
