Giorgi Gigashvili: Piano

Giorgi Gigashvili: Piano

Musical Connections
Giorgi Gigashvili’s intense, powerful, and impressively mature festival debut with Prokofiev’s “War Sonatas” last year can certainly be described as a musical highlight. It was therefore only a matter of time before we invited him back. This concert impressively demonstrated that his recitals are characterized not only by virtuoso technique but, above all, by a carefully thought-out program. Now the Georgian pianist—honored as an ECHO Rising Star and BBC New Generation Artist—returns to the Fürst-von-Metternich-Saal at Schloss Johannisberg to present, under the title “Relationships,” another finely curated program in which works by Robert and Clara Schumann, Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, and Dmitri Shostakovich into a dense dialogue of emotional tensions. Romantic introspection and striking contemporary contours are juxtaposed, developed, and explored here—for in his concerts, Gigashvili questions familiar sonic spaces with great curiosity and, in his own unique way, combines fidelity to the score with personal interpretation.
