Start of fall
September 23 | Beginning of autumn and start of the harvest for our Schloss Johannisberg Rieslings of the 2024 vintage
In the early hours of the morning, when the haze still lies over the Rhine Valley, the work begins for our harvest team in the vineyard.
The start of the harvest is reserved for the grapes for our Gelblack. The Gelblack is our entry into the world of Schloss Johannisberg Rieslings, our classic, which is predominantly matured in steel tanks.
The grapes are harvested by hand and then gently pressed. Close to nature and quality-conscious. The harvest and cellar team work hand in hand.
The Johannisberg forms a 50-hectare site that surrounds our château. Over the next few days and weeks, the grapes are harvested day by day in the plots. Vine by vine, field by field, paint by paint. Large sorting tables are used to decide which grape has the best prerequisites for which wine quality and for which maturation in the cellar.
SAVE THE DATE
You can already look forward to our Federweisserfest on October 5 and 6, where you will of course have the opportunity to drink fresh Federweisser and enjoy a slice of onion tart. Traditionally, we also offer tarte flambée and other small delicacies. And if you need Rieslings for your wine cellar at home, you can taste our current vintages this weekend and benefit from our market discount on purchases. Last but not least, you can follow our guides into our historic wine cellar for a guided tour and hear, smell and see how the 2024 vintage is made in wooden barrels.
