Cellomania

Six Cellos, One Sound
With its warm timbre and deep, intense tone, the cello won the hearts of the Rheingau audience two years ago in precisely this inspiring ensemble. Now we are once again inviting these renowned cellists to the chamber music hall at Schloss Johannisberg. At this year’s revival, the 24 strings will bring to life not only Wagner’s Prelude to “Tristan und Isolde” but also two impressive orchestral works in a rarely heard version for six cellos: Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations and his Fifth Symphony. Virtuosity, precision, and musical intuition then combine to create a powerful, lively performance, producing a densely woven sound that simultaneously allows each individual voice room to unfold. And you leave this chamber music experience wondering: Wasn’t there actually an entire orchestra on stage just now?
