Great Music in an Intimate Setting
In the 1950s, Sir Neville Marriner founded the Academy of St Martin in the Fields with twelve fellow musicians—a chamber orchestra that to this day thrives on the direct interaction among its members. Although this top-tier orchestra now has far more members than it did at its founding, eight of them are returning to their roots in this concert at Johannisberg Castle, performing in various chamber music ensembles—the last time this was seen in the region was in Frankfurt in 2006! Away from the big festival stages, our Orchestra in Residence this year will reveal a very personal side of itself this evening with works by Purcell and Brahms, as well as Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s impressive string octet.
Program
Henry Purcell Chaconne g-Moll (bearb. von Benjamin Britten)
Johannes Brahms Streichsextett B-Dur op. 18
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Streichoktett Es-Dur op. 20
