Chopin’s Musical Universe
Hayato Sumino returns to the stage where he received a standing ovation for his stunning debut at the 2024 Rheingau Music Festival, this time with a deeply personal program: one dedicated entirely to Frédéric Chopin. “For me, Chopin has always been like an idol, and his music has been very close to my heart since childhood. As I developed as a musician, I realized how naturally his influence flowed into my own compositions.” With this statement, this year’s Artist in Residence demonstrates just how deeply the music of the French-Polish composer has shaped him. And it is precisely through his interpretations of Chopin that he has made a name for himself internationally. On his album “Chopin Orbit,” released in January 2026, Hayato Sumino juxtaposes works by the French-Polish composer with his own compositions and pieces by other composers, using his inimitable style to explore anew the connection between past and present. In this year’s solo recital at Johannisberg Castle, he takes the audience on a journey into his very own, fascinating Chopin universe.
