A Long-Awaited Reunion
Lisa Batiashvili’s performances as the festival’s Artist in Residence, originally scheduled for 2020, had to be canceled due to the pandemic. But this coming summer, she will finally be performing in the Rheingau again! Joining her will be the multi-award-winning Schumann Quartet and the charismatic pianist Nino Gvetadze. At the heart of the program: Ernest Chausson’s Concerto for Violin, Piano, and String Quartet, Op. 21—a masterpiece straddling late Romanticism and Impressionism. The audience can look forward to a performance of gripping intensity and artistic refinement. As the quartet—winners of the 2019 OPUS KLASSIK award—puts it: “A work truly unfolds only when performed live.” Just how impressive this can sound in the works of Saint-Saëns, Beethoven, and Chausson will be revealed this evening at Schloss Johannisberg.
