Love in Music
Paris—the City of Love. From afar, you can hear a musette waltz. The Eiffel Tower glitters in the sunlight. Hardly any other city reflects the theme of love as well as Paris. It was there that trumpeter and this year’s featured artist Lucienne Renaudin Vary and accordionist Félicien Brut first met, and the French atmosphere, the music, and the romance of this city directly inspired their joint program, “The Perfect Match.” The centerpiece is the eponymous composition by the exceptionally talented young composer Fabien Waksman, arranged specifically for the duo, which sparkles with virtuosity and humor—and, of course, tells a story of love! The work is complemented by masterpieces ranging from Bizet and Bernstein to Piazzolla and Édith Piaf in tender arrangements for trumpet and accordion—because these two instruments, too, are simply a perfect match!
